Ecuador is ready to migrate to Digital TV
Friday, September 17th, 2010Ecuador will announce in December the final date for Analogue Switch Off (ASO). To migrate all TVs, this transition could take between 6 and 9 years, using the ISDB-T standard. Fabian Jaramillo , Chief of Supertel the Ecuadorain Telecom regulatator, said : “We are working to acquire television sets and/or decoders at the lowest cost possible for the people”.
The cost for a decoder would be under $30. The government plans to boost manufacturing industry in the country, to lower prices of these devices. There are about 3.5 million televisions to migrate to digital. These decisions were made during the international seminar of Digital TV, held in Ecuador and organized by DirecTV.
