Smartphones specialists gaining ground in the global mobile handsets market

According to Dataxis Intelligence latest updates, global mobile handsets shipments for the first quarter of 2010 have reached 320 million units signing up a nearly 26% yearly uptake while on a quarterly basis, it was 2% decrease.

As usual, the top largest vendors maintained their strong positions in the market accounting for up to 70% of the overall shipped units in the referred period.

As shows the figure below, Nokia the finish vendor still leads the market with its 107.8 million shipped devices followed far behind by South Korean manufacturers Samsung and LG with respectively 64.3 million and 27.1 million units shipped.

At the fourth place, we find Waterloo-based RIM and Sony Ericsson with each 10.5 million devices shipped, which marks a turning point for Blackberry maker as it outpaced Motorola for the first time and is set to position itself as the world’s fourth largest mobile handset vendor.

Apple came at the sixth position with its ground-breaking iPhone which was shipped at over 8.7 million units just ahead of Motorola, which for the first time falls out of the top five mobile handsets manufacturers.
