Bolitel to launch commercial services by september
Tuesday, August 17th, 2010According to Bolivian local news source El Deber, Bolitel, a new alternative operator is set to launch its commercial services officially by September after having serviced around 200 customers since last January.
The new entrant which is part of the sugar industry corporation UNAGRO will be offering VoIP-based services as well both international long-distance (ILD) and national long-distance (NLD) services in partnership with existing market players.
Strategically, the company is positioning itself as a low-cost operator with price plans up to 50% lower than those offered by its competitors in the domestic and international calls segment. Thus, the company also commits that if its clients travel with their phones, they could make and receive calls as if they were local, without paying the ‘roaming’.
The arrival of Bolitel in the Bolivian communications market is presumably welcome by other market players at least regarding the statements in media that the entry of another operator will benefit customers, an ideal for any service provider.
It is worth reminding that this is the third attempt by Bolitel to officially roll out commercial services after missing the august 2007 and early 2008 deadlines due to technical issues as claimed the operator.
