Maroc Telecom revenues up 4.3% in Q110

Maroc Telecom reported its results for the quarter ending March 31, 2010. During the quarter, revenues increased 4.3% to MAD 7.4 billion ($858 million) compared to the same period in 2009. The customer base grew by 14% y-o-y to 22.4 million, reflecting the continued growth of the mobile customer base in Morocco and across operations in sub-Saharan Africa.

In Morocco, the group’s operations generated a net revenue of MAD 6,1 million, down 0.7% y-o-y, while earnings from operations decreased by 3.1% y-o-y to MAD 2.9 million. Mobile customer base increased by 6.5% to 15.6 million subscribers including 265,000 3G mobile broadband internet users. The mobile segment generated revenues of MAD 4.5 million, which represents a 3.6% increase. On the other hand, gross revenues generated by the fixed-line and internet segments decreased by 7.7% to MAD 2.2 million.

Internationally, the group generated net revenue of MAD 282 million from its operations in Mauritania, which represents an increase of 3.3%. Revenues increased also in Burkina Faso to MAD 461 million, up 13.2%, and in Mali to MAD 340 million, 13.7%, while Gabon revenues decreased by 7.9% to MAD 273 million.
