Maxis wireless broadband subscriptions up 43% in Q2 2010

Malaysia’s largest mobile network operator, Maxis has released its second quarter 2010 results posting a top line of nearly MYR2.2 billion ($697.7 million) up 2.8% compared to the previous quarter. Earnings before Interest Tax Depreciation and Amortization (EBITDA) fell by 5% to just above MYR1 billion ($317 million) in the same period, resulting into a Profit After Tax (PAT) of MYR532 million ($168.7 million) down 3.6%.

As far as operational KPIs are concerned, Maxis reported an overall subscriber base of over 12.9 million by the end of June 2010 which represents a quarterly uptake of 2.2% and a 13.6% jump on a yearly basis. In the quarter the operator also saw its Wireless Broadband (WBB) services gaining momentum hence subscriptions soared to 448,000 up from 313,000 in first quarter 2010 and only 171,000 a year earlier. As a result, data revenue accounted for 36.6% of mobile revenue up from 31.4% last year.

Blended Arpu remained almost stable quarter over at MYR51 ($16 as well as voice usage measured by Minutes of Use (MOU) which stood at 173 minutes per subscriber
