ICASA to announce Mobile TV process completion in South Africa

Friday, September 3rd, 2010

icasaICASA has launched Mobile TV process since 2005 and expected to launch the service in 2008, but it still has a problem with licenses. In May 2010, ICASA has disqualified some operators including Multichoice and Super5 Media from the Invitation to Apply (ITA) for not complying with preliminiary requirements. Only e.tv has complied with these requirements, but e.tv still awaits for its license. So ICASA issued a second round of the ITA, with 4 weeks to respond. Multichoice and Super5 Media ICASA applied again for this new ITA. But some Media reports that Super5 Media is no longer interested. ICASA recently gave 6 month extension for Super5 to launch its services.

Paseka Melaka, ICASA spokeman, said : “The process is at an advanced stage and almost at its completion. The Authority will make an announcement in a week or two or at its earliest convenience about the outcomes of this process.”
