LG expects to increase its LCD sales by 50% in 2010
Monday, September 7th, 2009LG Electronics, that had outstripped Sony to become the world’s second-largest maker of liquid crystal display (LCD) TVs in the first half of 2009, expects its TV sales to jump nearly 50 percent in 2010.
According to Simon Kang, chief executive for LG’s home entertainment unit, LG’s LCD sales are expected to reach 17 million this year and 25 million in 2010. “The flat-screen TV market will continue to grow in the second half although it will probably see the growth rate slowing”.
This market growth will be, according to Mr Kang, fuelled by a robust demand from emerging countries. “Next year, developed markets will show a limited growth, maybe 2-3 percent, but developing countries such as the BRIC countries (Brazil, Russia, India and China) will likely post double digit percent growth”.
