Tata to launch GSM services
Friday, June 5th, 2009
Tata Tele will launch its GSM service in India in partnership with Motorola, Ericsson, Lucent and ECI Telecom. This decision is due to limitation of CDMA spectrum. Anil Sardana, Managing director of Tata Tele said : “The policy for the allocation of spectrum has caused the company to look at other alternatives. From a shareholders perspective, we have to build double network to sustain the market.”
Tata Teleservices was the first to launch CDMA services in India. According to Dataxis Intelligence, Tata has now near 39 million subscribers to its mobile service.
