Digital TV transition is today in US

Friday, June 12th, 2009

The ASO (analogue switch off) is set for today in the United Sates of America. Some households are not ready for this transition, Nielsen estimates this number at 2.8 million househlods while Smith Geiger advances the number of 1.75 million households. Consumers have to be equipped with a converter box, available for about $40 to $70 and have to rescan on Saturday, until transmitter and channels locations changed.

Bill Lake, DTV transition coordinator for the FCC, is ready to face all events. He told that 200 FCC staffers are in the field to deal with the transition and there are 4.000 agents to answer phone calls, 24 hours a day.

According to Dataxis Intelligence, about 10% of households will watch Television via Digital Terrestrial Television as primary set in 2010.
