Prisa criticizes Pay DTT, but has a licence

Monday, June 22nd, 2009

Juan Luis Cebrian, director of Prisa, criticized Ministry of Industry’s announcement to plan Pay DTT in Spain. He said that Pay TV market will not support new entrants, arguing that this Royal decree is “illegal” because it modifies the grant. This grant allows operators who hold a licence to exploit more than one channel.

However, Prisa has the licence to provide Pay DTT service in all its forms and across all its digital channels. In fact, Prisa complains that if others can also offer Pay TV, it weakens the position of Digital+, even if they have the licence to provide this service.
