Mobily announces the official launch of HSUPA network (Saudi Arabia)

Saudi Arabia leading MNO, Mobily, has annouced yesterday the commercial roll-out of its HSUPA services after several months of testing and an investment of SR 1bn ($270 mln) to be the first operator to upgrade its network to 3.75G in the region.

According to CEO Khalid Al-kaf, HSPA brings more balance to the mobile broadband experience as it enables users who want to play online games and designers who have large volumes of data they eagerly want to bring online to realize their dreams. He also announced that the technology initially available in the principal areas of the Kingdom will be soon expanded to the remainig areas to fulfill its customers needs accross the country.

It is important to state here that Mobily launched its HSDPA services about 2 years ago (May 2007) and the company claims now more than 300 000 mobile broadband subscribers dwarfing STC’s 240 000 customers in the segment as end of 2008.
