Celcom Malaysia eyeing 1million mobile broadband subscribers by 2010-end

Celcom, Malaysia’s second largest mobile network operator with over 10 million subscribers as end of  September 2009, has announced its ambitiuous goal to double mobile broadband customer base by 2010 to reach the 1 million mark as stated it the Chief Executive Officer Datuk Seri Shazalli Ramly during a media briefing conference “It’s our ambition to reach one million mobile broadband customers next year. That’s our dream. If we fail … don’t scold us,”

By setting this ambitious goal in a highly competitive broaband market Celcom is determined to play a major role in making broadband accessible to greater number of Malaysians as Shazalli put it: ““Operators including Celcom will be under pressure next year as well given that we have to achieve the Government’s target of having a 50% Internet penetration rate.”

According to Dataxis Intelligence, Celcom launched its firt mobile broadband services in early 2007 with an HSPA-based network, and since then the company has positioned itself as the N°1 provider of high speed mobile internet in the country ahead of  its  three others competitors (DiGi, Maxis and U-Mobile) that offer similar services as well.
