Cameroon plans to award two new mobile licences this year

Friday, June 4th, 2010

Cameroon_flagCameroon’s Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, Jean Pierre Biyiti Bi Essam, has announced that the government will license up to two new mobile operators in the next few months, reports Le Messager, a local newspaper. The introduction of the licences is expected to boost competition and thus lead to lower tariffs and improved services. The government also plans to deploy more than 5,000km of fibre optic cable by 2011 to boost access to broadband services and help the country cope with increased traffic, said Mr. Biyiti Bi Essam.
