Tiscali reports €983mln revenues, €247mln loss for 2008

Monday, March 30th, 2009

After its defaulted debt payment recently, Tiscali’s future is more than uncertain as potential buyers seem to prefer to wait and see Tiscali go bankrupt rather than pay too much now.

In the UK, Tiscali has around 10% of the market, but there are too many big 3play competitors to expect to survive in the medium term: BT, Virgin, Carphone, Sky, Orange, and Telefonica 02. Sky was the most likely to buy Tiscali UK recently, but it is rumored now that Carphone could buy Tiscali UK. With Tiscali, Carphone would have 26% and Sky 22% of the broadband retail market.

In Italy, Tiscali is a minor player with 5% market share. Potential buyers could be Vodafone, Wind or Fastweb/Swisscom.
